June 2011
Royal Ballet Junior Associates
Congratulations to Cameron Pierce on successfully auditioning for the RoyalBalletSchool outreach program. He will join the JA program in September. This is a fantastic achievement, especially as Cameron has only been with us a short time. Cameron follows in the footsteps of Laura and Rachel Myers, and Edward Myhill.
Also, a huge well done to all of our girls who auditioned, but on this occasion were unsuccessful. I am very proud of all of you. Don’t forget, this dancing business is a strange one and ultimately rests on one person’s opinion. Never stop trying – never take one person’s opinion as being the only one – never let anyone else choose your career for you – keep going until you get someone to say “yes” – I will be there supporting you every step of the way.
Dance Proms
The lineup has been announced www.danceproms.co.uk and unfortunately we were not chosen this time. The standard was very high and the judges had an incredibly tough decision. However, just because we are not on stage does not mean we cannot go and watch. So if anyone wants to go and watch I will be happy to arrange a London Coach Trip. Tickets are £10-£26. I have no idea how much a bus would be but if enough of you want me to do it, I will find out. The School which won the online competition was HoylakeAcademy who are in our RAD Region and I am sure they would be delighted to have a bit more support.
Meanwood Gala - Sunday 26th June
This is this Sunday. The running order is still being finalised, but we have a half hour slot at 1.30pm. All performers should be at MeanwoodPark by 12.45pm. Please see separate email regarding running order.
East Ardsley Gala - 9th July
This is due to take place on Saturday 9th July. We have two slots, and I am looking at the running order now. I would like to see as many Morley, East Ardsley and EastArdsleyMethodistChurch performers there as possible. Again, a separate email will be sent about this nearer the time.
Class Closure - East Ardsley - 9th July
Due to the Gala we will not be able to have classes that day. I am looking at the timetable to see where we can fit these in and will report back as soon as I have a solution.
Street Level Street Show
This is set to take place at Blackburn Hall, Rothwell on Saturday 23rd July at about 6pm (final timings to be confirmed). We are in the process of preparing a running order but would like to see all the Street Level Centres up there showing us what you have been up to. It will also be a good opportunity to see any other numbers from East Ardsley and Alwoodley that we were not able to perform in the 10 Year Show. Don’t panic if you’ve never performed before, the whole idea is that it doesn’t have to be perfect, we just want you to have fun. I think this will be a really fun, relaxed show. Tickets will be on sale shortly.
Pampered Chef Party - EACC - 25th June
We have a pampered chef party happening most of the day at EACC on Saturday. A catalogue has been in circulation, but if you didn’t get to see it, or are unable to get to EACC tomorrow then check out the Pampered Chef website where you can browse the products and place your orders. For those of you at EACC Saturday, Mandy will be cooking up a storm and happy to answer any questions.
RAD Ballet Exams - Tuesday 28th June - Alwoodley
Some of our younger students, and Rachel Norwood from the senior school take their RAD ballet exams on Tuesday. Hopefully you now all know the time you are to turn up. Please ensure you arrive 3/4 of an hour earlier that the time set. Please note that if you are late the RAD will not permit you to take your exam……… Please make sure you have all your uniform items and they are all clean and tidy. Primaries and Pre-Primaries you must have clean new regulation ballet socks – if you don’t, get in touch IMMEDIATELY. You should all have been sent your accounts for the exam, please ensure these are paid before the exam date, as again RAD exams need paying for in advance and they won’t permit you to take the exam if your account is unpaid. I hope everyone is looking forward to their exam and I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Good luck everyone.
IDTA Exams - East Ardsley Community Centre
We have requested Thursday 14th July, I will let you know as soon as this is confirmed. But in the meantime, I will continue to prepare the exam day running order.
RAD Boys Only Event - Northern Ballet - 16th & 17th July
This is a really exciting event for (as it says) Boys Only to be held jointly be the Royal Academy of Dance and Northern Ballet. Boys from age 8 can attend and try out various types of dance, without any pesky girls bothering them. No previous dance experience is necessary. I am helping out on the day so I would love to see as many of you boys there as possible, especially all of you who currently attend our Street Dance classes. The cost for the whole weekend is only £45, you can’t go wrong. No special uniform is needed either, just a tracksuit and tons of enthusiasm. Places are still available – see http://www.rad.org.uk/article_pink.asp?id=278 for more information.
Matt Flint Tap & Modern Classes - Scarborough
Matt Flint – the winner of So You Think You Can Dance is doing some tap and modern workshops in Scarborough. They are for age 8 to adult, so if you want to learn how to be as good as Matt, get along. Posters will be up at each Centre, but I will forward the email separately too.
And finally…………fees
Some of you may be contacted by Phil regarding unpaid fees, costume bills and uniform accounts. We only have five weeks until the end of term and therefore really need to get these up to date as soon as possible. There are a substantial amount of fees outstanding and about £1200 worth of costumes still outstanding. Clearly the Show took up a lot of our time and energy and things therefore got a little hazy. At as the date of performing we did not have costings in for some of the costumes – in fact we are still waiting for the Poison costings to come in. If anyone was at the Centres during the run up to the Show you will appreciate how fraught it got, if you subsequently receive a bill for something which you think you have paid for, please accept my apologies (its all my fault for being slack) and get in touch with Phil to discuss it – phil@dcdanceschool.co.uk.
