January 2011

Happy New Year everybody.  I hope you all had a good break and have made all your New Year’s Resolutions.  There is potentially a lot happening this year, so here’s a brief update.

Glee-eacc!

This is due to start on Saturday 12th February at East Ardsley.  We will run a 10 week course where students will learn several routines, create their own costumes and scenery before performing them to an invited audience at the end of the course.  The cost is £100. Places will be limited so if you haven’t booked on yet, do so quickly before the external advertising happens.

Zumba

Did anyone’s resolutions involve getting fit or losing weight????  If so, get yourself to Zumba.  It’s great fun, and it works.  Check out the timetable for details.  Classes are on Tuesdays and Saturdays and cost £5 as and when you turn up.

Show

As you now know the show is due to take place on 28th May at the new Northern Ballet building in the centre of Leeds.  If you are curious about the building, get along to Northern Ballet’s open day on Saturday 22nd January.  Our very own Caitlin Rose and Jessica Cowling are performing there, as are former pupils Natalie Alleston and Richard Johnston.  There is tons going on for you to have a look at/join in and you can have a good mooch around the building.  See Northern Ballet for more details.

At the moment the main thing I need to find out is who wants to be involved.  I know it is asking a lot for you to commit to something so vague, but until I know the numbers I cannot give you any more information.  We have potentially 300 children in the school and clearly the amount who sign up will determine how much time each group can have on stage and how many performances we do.  Irrespective of how many performances we plan we will need all performers all day.  We need the information on or before 23rd January so that we can sort out who is doing what and cost out costumes and tickets.  We want to be able to let you have this information by the end of January so that you can budget accordingly.  We will also be happy to receive weekly instalments towards costumes/tickets if this will help you.

I would love as many of you as possible to join me in celebrating the last decade, you are all very important to the School, and it wouldn’t exist without you.

Exam Presentation Day – East Ardsley/Morley

We have a Presentation Day scheduled for Sunday 23rd January at 2pm at East Ardsley Community Centre.  This should only take an hour, refreshments will be on sale.  The main reason for having the Presentation Day is to get as many of you together as possible to celebrate your success and to take a huge photo to send into the local press, and to put it on the website.  Please let’s see as many of you there as possible.  I don’t mind how many relatives you bring with you, but be aware some may be standing if we run out of chairs.

Dance Proms

In addition to our Show, the RAD, IDTA, ISTD and BBO have joined forces to put on a new and exciting Dance Prom – see Dance Proms for more information.  Basically we have to submit video applications, and those chosen will perform at The Royal Albert Hall in London in November 2011.  We will use the numbers which we are perfecting for our show as our audition pieces.

Exams

We have one set of results through – East Ardsley – but as yet, we have not received the ones done at Alwoodley.  Hopefully they won’t be too long. The East Ardsley results will be on the website shortly, but well done to everyone who participated, there were some really good results.  I am looking to organise a Presentation Evening, probably on a Sunday, and am just waiting to hear from the Hall to see which one is best.

Well Done Becki

I am thrilled to tell you that Becki Bonthron was successful in her recent Street Associate exam.  This means that Becki is now a fully qualified IDTA Street Dance Teacher.  Well done Becki!

Well Done Emily

Emily Bailey successfully auditioned with Ilkley Upstagers for a part in their production of Billy Elliott to take place later in the year.  Well done Emily.  As soon as the tickets are released I will let you know so we can go and give her our support.
